On a Windows operating system, I selected the "always open file" with Excel and now I want to change it to a PDF or a detect file type. How can I do this?

If you have already used another program on that computer, you should not even have to use the shift key, especially in Windows 8, as it lists under "Open With" every previous program that you have used to open those files. Otherwise, my answer is the same as Abhishek Malani's.

Type on PDF: All You Need to Know

If I am forced to start with Windows XP to copy files for a friend, I can at least do it on Windows 7 using a PC with a USB flash drive. How to copy files with the Shift key (Windows 7) 1. Open the Control Panel. 2. Click on Start, and at the bottom of the Start screen, click Command Prompt (Admin). 3. Type the following command in this window. disk part: disk part list 4. You should see some information about your drives. In the below image, the disk labeled “B” is my internal disk (e.g. my hard drive 1), the one without any letter is drive “D” (e.g. it is my USB flash drive). 5. The drive labeled “F” (in the image) is USB flash drive 2. Type disk part: for more details. 6. Select that “F” drive from the list on the left, and click Partition. 7. Click on the Select button.
